Since 1869, the German Derby has been taking place in Hamburg. A long tradition that will continue in 2017. The most important and tense race of the year in the German Turf promises excitement and gallop at its finest. After all, a race horse can only win this race once in his lifetime: at the age of three. Not every horse is allowed to run and only the best will qualify. The history of the Derby is not just one of the most important race in the German thoroughbred breeding and racing but it is also part of our cultural history. It survived two world wars, yet it had to take place outside of Hamburg 5 times; in Berlin-Grunewald in 1919, in Berlin-Hoppegarten in 1943 and 1944, in Munich-Riem in 1946 and in Cologne in 1947. Nevertheless,

Hamburg is the home this incomparable race. Enjoy an unbelievable and most exciting atmosphere! And don't forget the fashion highlights at the races. Tailors and hatmakers are always very busy for the Derby event. You dress as you like, of course, wherever you choose your place. Whether on a picnic blanket next to the track or enjoy the convenience of the VIP-Lounge. Celebrities and politicians and everybody else have enjoyed attending the races. At the track in Hamburg everybody gets together!
